A dogecoin influencer shared his thoughts on the hacking incident on the official X (formerly Twitter) account. Clearly, the hack was likely designed to prove a point.
In an article published on his X (former Twitter) platform, Dogecoin influencer Mishaboar said the hacking of MyDoge's X account was calculated and timing very bad. As for the time, this influencer refers to the fact that the anniversary of Dogecoin happened. He thought the hack was to hijacking this special Dogecoin day.
As for how it happens, Mishaboar notes that this is most likely a SIM swap attack. If so, then it is similar to what happened to Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum.Buterin Hack lost his X account in September, which he later confirmed was caused by a SIM exchange attack.
After expressing his suspicions, Mishabor also took the opportunity to tell the community how to keep its accounts safe. He suggested that they enable 2FA authentication on the X using an authenticator application or a physical security key. He points out that this is even more important for accounts with a large number of followers.
The community wants to thank the influencer as one of those who were quick to warn others that the MyDoge's X account had been compromised at the time of the hack. Hackers have posted phishing links, which could cause users to empty their wallets.
These scams and hacking appear to have increased during this period, as Shiba Inu's fraud detector Suarium recently warned the community of impersonators and fraudsters who tried to mislead users.
My Doge Wallet, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Alex confirmed in the X post that the MyDoge X account has been restored. In a subsequent post, Alex also confirmed Mishaboar's suspicions, saying that his mobile phone had been replaced with a SIM card. He admitted that the account did not enable 2FA because it would "immediately stop hackers".
At the same time, as he mentioned during the hack, he reiterated that all user wallets and data are secure and that hackers cannot access any of them. According to him, hackers cannot access such information because the company cannot access users' money because it is a self-managed wallet.
